How to convert GLB to USDZ

Three steps, one page, no account. The whole conversion is a local operation — the slowest part is you finding the file.

  1. Drop your file

Drag the file onto the box above. It is read straight off your disk with the browser's File API — no upload, and no progress bar to a server.

  2. Conversion runs in your browser

The file is parsed, every mesh is baked into world space, and the result is written out in the target format. Your CPU does the work, so a client's unreleased model never leaves the room.

  3. Download the result

Save the converted file and open it wherever you were headed. Nothing is watermarked and nothing expires.

GLB and USDZ, explained

They solve different problems, which is exactly why one direction of this conversion costs you something and the other does not.

What is GLB?

GLB is the binary flavour of glTF — one file carrying geometry, UV coordinates, materials, textures and a scene graph together. It is what the web, Blender, Unity, Unreal and Three.js all read natively, and it is what this site's generator hands you.

What is USDZ?

USDZ is Apple's zipped Universal Scene Description package, and it is the file AR Quick Look wants. Send one to an iPhone and the model opens full-screen in the room, textures and all, with no app to install.

What survives the GLB → USDZ conversion

Every conversion is a trade. Any tool that tells you otherwise is lying to you, so here is the exact ledger before you commit.

Survives

  • Geometry and texture together. This is the one export here that keeps the material — USDZ carries the images inside the package.
  • Colour. The model opens in AR Quick Look looking like it did in the viewer, not grey.
  • Multiple meshes. The whole scene is packaged, not just the first object.
  • Instant iOS preview. Mail or message the file and it opens full-screen in the room, with nothing to install.

Does not survive

  • Animation. The exporter writes the static scene, so anything that moved stands still.
  • Rigs and bones. Skeletons are baked out into the pose you exported.
  • Editability. USDZ is a delivery format. Keep the GLB as your working copy.
  • Non-Apple viewers. Support outside the Apple ecosystem is patchy — it is an AR file, not a universal one.

USDZ is for showing, not editing. Keep the original file as the master and re-export whenever the model changes. Every other conversion here runs the same way — in your browser, free.

When should you run this conversion?

Convert to USDZ when the audience is on iOS and the point is to see the object in the room. It is the only export here that keeps the material, which is exactly what AR needs.

  • AR Quick Look. Message or email the file and it opens full-screen in the room, on any recent iPhone or iPad, with nothing to install.
  • Product previews on a web page. Safari renders a USDZ inline through the same AR viewer, which is still the simplest AR embed there is.
  • Sending a client something they can actually open. No 3D software, no account, no plugin — just a file that behaves like a photo.
  • Checking scale in the real world. Seeing a generated prop at life size on a desk tells you more in five seconds than any render will.

Keep the GLB as your working copy: USDZ is a delivery format, and this export writes the static scene, so anything animated arrives standing still. Open the GLB in the viewer whenever you need to check the mesh itself.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. USDZ packages the images inside the file, so the model opens in AR Quick Look looking the way it did in the viewer. It is the one export on this site where the material survives the conversion intact.
